Description
In 6 lessons I will teach you how to make your own glaze. How to make an engobe, how to color an existing glaze, how to create color, how to make an earthenware glaze, how to make a stoneware glaze and what to consider with a glaze firing. We will work in pairs. This way we can test a lot! In between I give assignments. These take little time but you can always experiment further at home to give extra depth to the course. Every lesson you get the theory. Together with the photos and notes from the lessons, this gives you a nice start to work on your own after this.
Who is this course for?
If you've been working with ceramics for a while and the virus is really starting to get under your skin, this is a great next step. Ideally, you have your own kiln(s) or you can experiment with putting together your own glaze at your course location. But this is not necessary. I teach the course in an approachable way, where we mainly get to work and test a lot and then analyze the results. Of course there is also theory involved but I have the same approach to making glaze as I have to cooking. You have to get to know your ingredients and understand what they do and in combination with each other. I personally stay far away from something like the Seger formula. Glazes are quite a challenge and this is really the basics. How to make a horizontal test, how to make a raw material test and how to make a color triangle. We will not be working with crystal glazes! These are incredibly difficult and error prone so for the advanced glazier.
