Haarlem artists are inspired by their love for Japan. Together, in their own
way, they show their take on the concept of MA (間), the essence of Japanese aesthetics.
MA間 has been described as a pause in time, an interval or void in space. In Japanese culture and
art, the interpretation of empty spaces, is as important as the rest of the artwork. It is about
a balance between presence and absence, the something and the nothing. The viewer is encouraged to recognize the
emptiness as part of the artwork. With an interesting mix of different
art forms and techniques, the participants have shaped the concept ''Embrace the Space''
.
